PETRONAS-Petros issue: PMX, Premier agree to finalise fundamental principles soon

KUCHING, May 10: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg have agreed to finalise the fundamental principles in the near term to facilitate negotiations between national oil company Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) and State-owned Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros).

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) earlier, the consensus was reached during a high-level meeting chaired by Anwar and attended by Abang Johari, along with the top leadership of PETRONAS and Petros at Perdana Putra in Putrajaya yesterday (May 9).

The discussion, described as cordial and harmonious, was anchored in the spirit of federalism and mutual cooperation.

“In this meeting, the Prime Minister and the Sarawak Premier agreed to finalise the fundamental principles as agreed upon previously, to facilitate negotiations between PETRONAS and Petros.

“This step is important to ensure that the vast potential identified from the cooperation between PETRONAS and Petros can be fully explored and effectively implemented. This includes accelerating the commercial energy supply to ASEAN countries,” it said.

In addition, the statement said the Prime Minister and the Sarawak Premier also reached a consensus to resolve all outstanding issues through negotiations. — DayakDaily
