BARAM, Dec 19: Seventy recipients from five villages in the Baram Hilir area received food basket assistance under a PETRONAS-led community outreach programme held at Kampung Uma Akeh here on Thursday (Dec 18), underscoring the company’s continued commitment to supporting rural communities through its Memacu Kehidupan initiative.
The programme, organised by PETRONAS through its Sarawak Shell Gas Plant (SSGP) operations, brought meaningful assistance while fostering closer engagement with local residents.
According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, it was officiated by the political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Dominic Nyurang Ajang, who attended on behalf of Baram MP Dato Anyi Ngau.
The five villages involved were Kampung Uma Akeh, Kampung Long Ikang, Kampung Long Puak, Kampung Long Banyok and Kampung Logan Sibong.
In his officiating remarks, Dominic expressed appreciation to PETRONAS SSGP for its sustained commitment to community-based initiatives, noting that such programmes play an important role in easing the burden of underprivileged families, particularly with the Christmas festive season approaching.
He said the assistance reflected a caring and inclusive approach by the corporate sector in complementing government efforts to safeguard the welfare of rural communities, especially in remote interior areas such as Baram.
The programme also served as a platform to strengthen collaboration between corporate partners, local administration, security agencies and community leaders, with representatives from the district office, police, fire and rescue department, as well as traditional leaders in attendance.
Beyond the distribution of aid, the Memacu Kehidupan initiative highlighted the importance of sustained engagement and partnerships in uplifting the socio-economic well-being of rural communities while fostering closer ties between stakeholders and residents.
About 250 people attended the programme, reflecting strong community participation and support for initiatives that prioritise grassroots welfare and inclusive development. — DayakDaily
