PULAU BRUIT, Sept 20: Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) launched its mobile refuelling service (ROVR) petrol station in Kampung Tekajong, benefitting local residents, particularly the fishing community in Pulau Bruit and surrounding villagers.

The facility launch was officiated by Deputy Minister of Corporate Affairs, Information and Ukas Datuk Abdullah Saidol, alongside PETRONAS Sarawak general manager Norazibah Md Rabu and Sarawak Fisheries Development Authority director Mohamad Rizal Sahari.

In a news report by TVS, Norazibah highlighted that the ROVR in Pulau Bruit is the sixth in Sarawak, following those in Long Tebila, Sebuyau, Lundu, Kuala Tatau, and Julau.

“I’ve been informed that the population around Pulau Bruit exceeds 10,000, with seven nearby villages linked to this ROVR petrol station (Tekajong).

“Operated by PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd, a total of 60,000 litres of petrol are supplied each month to meet the needs and demands of the local residents,” she disclosed during the ceremony today.

Norazibah expressed confidence that this facility, which commenced operations in November last year, would enable residents of Pulau Bruit to access petrol at market prices of RM2.05 per litre.

“I’ve also learned that previously, residents and fishermen had to travel to the nearest town for fuel. With the ROVR petrol station, this challenge is addressed, saving both costs and travel time,” she said.

Abdullah emphasised that the importance of this facility, stating that it will have a significant impact on the fishing community and boost the local economy.

“This petrol station simplifies access for fishermen to subsidised petrol for their boats,” he said.

The Semop assemblyman urged PETRONAS to enhance the fuel storage capacity at the station, noting that it often experiences supply shortages, especially during peak fishing seasons.

Additionally, Abdullah requested collaboration from PETRONAS, the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM), and Area Fishermen’s Association (PNK) to consider establishing a subsidised diesel station at the new LKIM jetty base south of Pulau Bruit. — DayakDaily
