KUCHING, Dec 2: Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) has paid the State Sales Tax (SST) for the first six months of this year, revealed Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“(Yes) for the first six months of this year (Petronas has) already paid,” Abang Johari told reporters after launching Petros LPG at Kubah Ria, Satok here today.

However, he declined to divulge further details.

“You have to wait for the (announcement of the next) budget later,” he said.

The SST which has been imposed since January last year has yielded the state some RM3 billion annually.

Besides Petronas, other oil companies in Sarawak including Shell, Murphy and Petromina have also paid their dues.

Earlier in his speech, Abang Johari who is also the state’s Finance Minister, urged the rakyat to continue supporting Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) which he leads, to bring in more development for Sarawak.

“Getting the SST was not smooth-sailing. We even had to go to court to settle it with Petronas,” he said. — DayakDaily
