KUCHING, July 29: Petronas has paid RM24.54 billion to Sarawak for its oil and gas royalty from 2008 to 2019, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mustapa Mohamed.

In a Bernama report yesterday, Mustapa disclosed that Petronas had made a total of RM59.8 billion to Sarawak, Sabah, Terengganu and Kelantan.

Out of the RM59.8 billion, Sarawak received RM24.54 billion, Sabah RM12.78 billion, Terengganu RM22.04 billion and Kelantan, RM403.25 million.

Mustapa said this in a written reply to a question raised by Lim Guan Eng (PH-Bagan) in Parliament yesterday.

Lim had requested the breakdown of cash payments made by Petronas to the four states, directly and indirectly.

Meanwhile, Lim who is Democratic Action Party secretary general also asked if the resignation of former Petronas president and CEO Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin was related to these payments.

To the question, Mustapa replied that Wan Zulkiflee made the decision to retire after 37 years of serving Petronas and the latter’s resignation was not related to the cash payments.

Mustapha said Wan Zulkilfee’s appointment to Malaysia Airlines Bhd was a recognition of the latter’s ability and experience in Petronas. The appointment also followed due to federal government’s effort in reviewing the government-linked companies.—DayakDaily
