KUCHING, June 26: Fuel supply across Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS) petrol station networks nationwide is expected to remain stable and sufficient until August, according to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

She said this was based on official information from Petronas, as reported during the weekly meeting of the National Economic Action Council (NEAC).

“The network accounts for about 50 per cent of the country’s domestic fuel demand, supplied by PETRONAS through its listed subsidiary, PETRONAS Dagangan Bhd,” she said in a written parliamentary reply published on the Dewan Rakyat website today as per reported by Bernama.

To ensure adequate fuel supply and support the government’s efforts to manage the global energy crisis stemming from conflicts in West Asia, she said a Crisis Management Task Force (PPPK) under NEAC has been established.

“The task force continuously monitors the country’s fuel, fuel products and energy supply situation, safeguards supply security in the coming months, and also oversees price controls, while preventing smuggling and leakage,” she added.

She said ongoing efforts are also being made to secure crude oil imports from suppliers outside West Asia, including West Africa and the Americas, subject to crude grade suitability and commercial terms.

She was responding to a question from Khairil Nizam Khirudin (PN–Jerantut) regarding PETRONAS’ earlier statement that fuel supply across its network is only guaranteed until end-June 2026, as well as the government’s contingency plans should the global energy crisis persist. — DayakDaily
