KUCHING, Dec 15: PETRONAS has extended assistance to underprivileged families and schoolchildren in Lambir, Miri, providing school supplies and essential food items to help ease financial burdens ahead of the new school session and the Christmas celebrations.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the assistance was channelled through education and community welfare initiatives aimed at supporting rural households facing cost-of-living pressures, in line with PETRONAS’ corporate social responsibility efforts.
The initiatives comprised the PETRONAS Powering Knowledge: Back to School @ Lambir programme and the PETRONAS Uplifting Lives: Lambir Christmas Programme, both held at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Lambir Village on Sunday (Dec 14). The programmes were officiated by Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development II and Lambir assemblyman Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat.
Under the back-to-school programme, 300 pupils from SK Lambir Village received complete school kits, including uniforms, shoes, school bags, pencil cases and basic stationery, to support their readiness for the new school year.
Meanwhile, the Christmas programme benefited 120 households in the Lambir area through the distribution of essential food items, helping families prepare for the festive season while easing daily financial burdens.
The programmes were implemented in collaboration with the Sarawak Education Department and the Sarawak Social Welfare Department to ensure the assistance addressed the actual needs of the local community.
Also present were PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd senior general manager for Sarawak Assets Shalby Reduan, PETRONAS Sarawak general manager Norazibah Md Rabu, Miri District Education officer Mariam Monek representing the Sarawak Education Department director, Social Welfare Department Sarawak Social Wellbeing Division head Nurin Chunggat representing the department director, and SK Lambir Village headmaster Suhardi Junaidi. — DayakDaily
