SRI AMAN, Aug 7: Some 150 students from five secondary schools here participated in the PETRONAS Powering Knowledge – Discover PETRONAS @ Schools (DPS) event held as part of the company’s 50th Anniversary celebration.
The event, held in collaboration with the Sarawak Education Department (JPNS), included students from SMK Sri Aman, SMK Lingga, SMK St Luke, SMK Melugu, and SMK Simanggang.
According to a media release today, students engaged in various activities, including a motivational session led by Anuar Ismail, PETRONAS senior general manager (SGM) for Malaysia Petroleum Management, who is originally from Sri Aman.
They also participated in a powering knowledge session and interactive science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities conducted by Petrosains.
The programme, jointly organised by PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd-Sarawak Asset (SKA) and the PETRONAS group in collaboration with Sarawak Education Department (JPNS), aims to foster individual and societal growth through education.
Sarawak Deputy Minister for Talent Development Datuk Francis Harden Hollis officiated the event, with notable attendees including Sri Aman Deputy Resident Officer Charlie Keling, Sri Aman District Education Office deputy head Nancy Nosiew, PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd – Sarawak Asset (SKA) SGM Noriani @Yati Mohamad, PETRONAS SGM for Group Human Resource Management Abdullah Monshie, and PETRONAS alumni Yeo Sang Chiew and Malong Libu from Sri Aman.
In conjunction with its 50th anniversary, PETRONAS also inaugurated a commemorative torch as part of the nationwide ‘Journey of the Twin Torches’ tour, symbolising the company’s enduring legacy and commitment to talent development.
Anuar handed the torch to Abang Jimmy Abang Mordian, PETRONAS SGM for Project Delivery and Technology, who will bring it to Kuching on Aug 9.
PETRONAS’ anniversary celebration pays tribute to its past, present, and future, highlighting its evolution into a leading global energy player. The event showcased the company’s achievements and vision over the past 50 years, emphasising its commitment to unity, strength, excellence, innovation, and sustainability.
