KUCHING, March 8: Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), through the Petronas Marine brand, has inaugurated its liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering business with its long-term partner based in China, Tiger Gas.

This follows the completion of its maiden ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation of approximately 500 tonnes of LNG for the latterā€™s Tiger Maanshan, the worldā€™s largest dual-fuel deck cargo ship.

According to Petronas in a statement today, Tiger Gas has thus become Petronas’ LNG bunkering business’s first Chinese customer.

Present at a commemorative event held at the Tiger Gas office were Petronas Refining, Marketing and Trading vice president Ahmad Adly Alias, Petronas Beijing Office chief representative Lisy Lee, Petronas Marine LNG bunker sales head Mohd Firdaus Bin Kamilrudin, Tiger Group chairman Gerry Wang and vice chairman CC Xue, Tiger Gas president Junfeng Xu and vice president Glenn Qu as well as other senior leaders from both companies.

The partnership between Petronas and Tiger Gas began in 2020 when the two companies signed a sale and purchase agreement to supply the Chinese market with LNG via International Organisation of Standardisation (ISO) tanks.

This ground-breaking solution allows small and medium-sized businesses located at remote areas access to natural gas, while helping them achieve their sustainability goals.

Meanwhile, Petronas also said that 2023 marks Petronasā€™ 20th anniversary in China.

ā€œPetronas has supported the fast-growing clean energy needs of our Chinese partners with sustainable quality products and solutions for the past two decades and will continue doing so, as we forge ahead together to achieve our net zero aspiration.

ā€œMoving forward, Petronas will remain committed to the Chinese market, empower the Chinese energy industry and contribute to the country’s economic development.

ā€œPetronas will work with its Chinese partners and create a green and sustainable future together,ā€ it added. ā€” DayakDaily
