KUCHING, Jan 15: Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), through its social impact arm Yayasan PETRONAS, has allocated 1,150 care packages to Sarawak, with 950 already distributed to flood victims as of January 12.

PETRONAS said the assistance comes as Sarawak continues to face flood risks following heavy rainfall and warnings of a possible second wave due to the king tide.

“The care packages contain essential daily and personal hygiene items such as towels, blankets, mineral water, cutlery, sanitary pads, diapers, wet wipes, toothbrushes, and toothpaste,” said PETRONAS in a statement.

The care packages are part of a nationwide distribution of 8,750 units by Yayasan PETRONAS.

The packages were handed over to the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS) in November 2025, where they were stored at designated JKM depot centres throughout the State.

When floods occur, JKMS distributes the packages to temporary evacuation centres (PPS).

As of January 12, 2026, a total of 950 care packages has been distributed to PPS in the Miri, Bintulu, Mukah and Samarahan divisions.

Sarawak had previously experienced severe flooding early last year, just days before Chinese New Year.

Meanwhile, Bintulu was among the worst-hit areas after nearly 900mm of rain fell in a single day with thousands of families were displaced, and 57 PPS were opened statewide at the height of the disaster.

PETRONAS Sarawak general manager Norazibah M Rabu said PETRONAS remains committed to supporting the State and affected communities.

“Through our coordination with JKMS, we hope the care packages distributed can offer a measure of comfort and reassurance to those impacted.

“With the possibility of a second wave of flooding due to the king tide, as cautioned by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee, we urge the public to remain vigilant. In times of crisis, we stand together with the people of Sarawak, ready to respond whenever and wherever support is needed,” she added.

PETRONAS noted that lessons from previous floods have enhanced its preparedness and response, ensuring aid can be delivered quickly to those in need.
