KUCHING, April 12: Dato Peter Minos has been sworn in for another term as chairman of the Serian District Council (SDC), reaffirming his commitment to advancing rural development, particularly in eco-tourism and agriculture.
Minos, who took his oath on April 11, said he is grateful to the government for the continued trust placed in him, describing his leadership journey as both challenging and rewarding.
Reflecting on his past role as chairman of the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), which he held for 10 years, he said the experience was demanding but meaningful.
“Those were challenging years but very interesting. I am truly grateful to have been given the opportunity, and I have very fond memories of Samarahan and its people,” he said in a statement today.
Minos noted that he was appointed to serve in Serian in March 2025, where development is progressing steadily, albeit at a slower pace compared to Samarahan.
He emphasised that Serian holds strong potential in eco-tourism and agriculture, citing its natural attractions such as mountains, waterfalls, rivers, hot springs, and lakes.
“SDC is now focusing on 10 eco-tourism projects, with some to be implemented this year. Once completed, Serian will become a vibrant rural tourism destination with much to see and experience,” he said.
He also praised the local community, describing the people of Serian—many of whom are from the Bidayuh community—as warm and friendly.
“I am happy to spend another year serving here with them,” he added.
Minos acknowledged that chairing two councils across different areas presents a significant challenge, but one he embraces positively.
“It is a big responsibility, but also a happy and fulfilling one. I thank the government for the trust,” he said. — DayakDaily
