MIRI, April 19: The new Permyjaya Red Crescent Society (PBSM) dialysis centre is expected to be fully operational by June this year.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Sarawak Transport Minister-cum-Senadin assemblyman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the centre would provide about 40 dialysis machines capable of accommodating a capacity of 240 patients while reducing the burden and congestion at the existing dialysis centre in Bandar Miri.

“The new dialysis centre is located in Permyjaya on three acres of land donated by the Sarawak government.

“Construction of the centre began in 2019 and was completed in March 2021 with an estimated total cost of RM5.43 million.

“This centre can support and complement the existing dialysis centre at Jalan Bulan Sabit in Miri,” he said after receiving a donation of a hemodialysis machine from the Lions Club at the Permyjaya Miri Dialysis Centre yesterday (April 18).

Kim Shin said the Lions Club has donated two units of hemodialysis machines worth RM84,000 to the PBSM Permyjaya dialysis centre.

He also thanked 10 Miri Lions Clubs of Lutong, Miri Mandarin, Miri Central, Miri Centennial, Miri Host, Lambir Miri, Batu Niah, Marudi Mandarin, Miri Seahorse and New Century Lions Club of Miri Resort City as well as other corporate bodies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and individuals concerned for their support and contributions.

At present, the centre has 24 haemodialysis machines of which 12 units were contributed by Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) and 12 others were from corporate bodies and NGOs. — DayakDaily
