KUCHING, Oct 1: The new office building for the Malaysian Muslim Welfare Association (Perkim), designed with a ‘green building’ concept, will be equipped with a rehabilitation centre for senior citizens suffering from stroke and a day care centre, according to Perkim Sarawak chairperson Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib.
According to a TVS news report, Hanifah emphasised that the development, located near the Sarawak Orphans’ Welfare Board (Peryatim) building, will also include a multi-purpose hall.
“Our objective in implementing this ‘green building’ is to save energy, reduce waste, and alleviate financial burdens,” she was quoted as saying.
She estimated that the construction cost of the building would be less than RM15 million, adding that a more detailed review is being carried out to finalise the expenses.
Hanifah, who is also federal Deputy Minister of Economy, made these remarks during a press conference after a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.
Elaborating further, Hanifah stated that many senior citizens still have sharp minds and are eager to share their experiences and provide guidance based on what they have accomplished during their careers.
“We do not want our elderly citizens to feel lonely after retirement. That is why we aim to have a dedicated building that allows them to socialise, learn about proper nutrition for their age, and share their work experiences,” she added.
Also present at the event were Perkim Sarawak vice chairman I, Dato Sri Rohani Abdul Karim, vice chairman II, Datin Hajah Noraini Hussin, and other committee members. — DayakDaily
