KAPIT, May 12: A total of 4,030 hectares of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land will be surveyed under Section 18 within the next two years at Rh Lugat, Sg Majau, Baleh.

“This the first time the survey under Section 18 is done by the Land and Survey Departmet at the constituency of N64 Baleh,” said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Masing Jemut after he officiated at the launching of the survey at Rh Lugat, Sg Majau Baleh, which is also his longhouse, today.

He disclosed that a survey of ‘pemakai menoa’ under Section 6 was completed some time last year and now the government is proceeding with the next step, that is to survey the area under section 18 for individual titles.

“This is to show that the survey of section 6 is a prerequisite to the survey of section 18. Hence section 6 is not a prelude to government grabbing of NCR land as some have alluded to in social media,” said Masing who is also Baleh assemblyman, in a statement today.

“The survey of Section 18 in my longhouse is a pilot project to prove the critics of the recent NCR land bill as tabled by Datuk Amar Doulas Uggah, as wrong and misleading.

“I hope NCR land bill critics stop misleading and confusing the people. The government wants ‘pemakai menoa’ to have the force of law to back natives’ claim on the ‘pemakai menoa and pulau galau” (PMPG). Legal critics of the NCR land bill should understand this better than anybody else,” he said. — DayakDaily
