KUCHING, May 8: ‘Perahu tambang’ operators including school bus and van operators, as well as taxi drivers, will be given a one-off financial under the Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance 3.0.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said about 199 perahu tambang operators registered with the Sarawak Rivers Board would benefit from the third stimulus package including registered school bus and van operators.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has led to a drastic decline of passengers especially tourists using the penambang (boat operators). This has affected the income of penambang throughout Sarawak.

“Therefore, the one-off cash assistance of RM500 will be given to registered penambang in Sarawak, which will benefit 199 perahu tambang operators and with this, we hope it will reduce their financial burden,” Abang Johari told a press conference here today.

The one-off cash assistance for penambang will cost the Sarawak government RM99,500.

He added that passenger vans operators, taxi drivers, bus operators, and registered school transport operators will be given once-off assistance of RM600, involving a total sum of RM2.2 million.

The chief minister said the one-off cash assistance will benefit 959 van operators, 1,976 taxi drivers, and 739 registered school buses and school van operators. — DayakDaily
