KUCHING, July 18: A delegation from the People’s Republic of China visited the Sarawak Skills Development Centre (PPKS), Tabuan Jaya, here on July 17, laying the groundwork for the parties to explore various joint strategic initiatives in areas such as the transformation of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Research and Development (R&D).
According to a Sarawak Skills press release, the aforementioned visit was coordinated by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malaysia, the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching, and the Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions (Sarawak Skills).
“Led by Du Xiaolin, Counsellor, Bureau I, and Member of the Silk Roadster, the visitors were welcomed by PPKS chairman and i-Cats University College pro-chancellor Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Hussain, Sarawak Skills Management Council secretary Dato Hajjah Maznah Dasmi, Sarawak Skills executive director and Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC) chairman Hallman Sabri, and members of the Sarawak Skills and i-Cats University College management teams.
“Among those present were Xing Weiping, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching, Shao Liang, Counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malaysia, Zeng Haoyao, Vice-Consul from the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching, and officials from the Offices of the Premier of Sarawak, Deputy Premier of Sarawak, and the Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD) Sarawak.”
The press release stated that visitors were given a guided tour of the Sarawak Skills’ Talent Development Gallery upon their arrival.
“The gallery chronicles Sarawak Skills’ voyage over the past 29 years as a stakeholder in the transformation of Sarawak’s vibrant socio-economic landscape.
“Following the tour of the gallery, a briefing was held to update the visitors on the latest developments at Sarawak Skills, including upcoming training centres/institutions.”
As part of his welcoming remarks, Hallman shared, “This morning marks an important step forward in our mutual objective to advance the noble cause of transforming lives and communities, within the shores of our respective nations, and around the globe.
“In line with the Silk Road Enhancement programme, Sarawak Skills also stands ready to facilitate business exchange(s) and cooperation between business entities in the People’s Republic of China and Sarawak. Yes, there is much to explore – as strategic partners, we will be able to chart the way forward for the betterment of humankind.”
Meanwhile, Du noted in his speech that the visit would pave the way for joint initiatives, especially in the area of vocational education and people-to-people exchanges.
Following his speech, various members of the delegation took the opportunity to share information on their respective institutions/organisations, namely Beijing Chuangmei Star Source Cultural Communication Company Ltd, Beijing Polytechnic, Beijing Business School, and Tongren Polytechnic College.
