KUCHING, June 28: Deputy Premier of Sarawak Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian calls on non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to organise more activities to promote Sarawak, as this will not only promote unity among Sarawakās ethnic groups but will also provide foreigners with more information about the State.
In a press release, Dr Sim, who is also Batu Kawah assemblyman, stated that Sarawak has numerous NGOs with various areas of focus, such as associations, societies, and local and community organisations, which serve as vital channels of communication between the government and the people.
āNGOs are extremely important to Sarawak and play an important role in promoting national unity and maintaining local tranquility, so we hope that they will continue to stand in the position of defending Sarawak and contribute more to Sarawak,ā said Dr Sim at a ceremony to hand over funds to 17 community associations in the Batu Kawah constituency.
He asserted he believes Sarawak needs more publicity, and that the people are outraged by a recent Facebook post by a Peninsular Malaysian lawyer about Sabah and Sarawak.
āAs a Malaysian lawyer, her knowledge of Borneo is so superficial; she should understand and accept the fact that Sarawak and Sabah are very important partners in forming Malaysia, and without Sarawak and Sabah, there would be no Malaysia today,ā he added.
In addition, Dr Sim said that Sarawak has made significant contributions to Malaysia in terms of oil and gas, and that the development of Peninsular Malaysia today is largely attributable to Sarawak and Sabahās contributions.
Dr Sim also urged Sarawakians to always assist the Sarawak government in promoting Sarawak to foreign countries, including citizens of Peninsular Malaysia, as Sarawak welcomes more tourists. ā DayakDaily
