KUCHING, April 2: Peninsular Malaysian companies in healthcare, urban development, semiconductors, digital technologies and advanced manufacturing are actively exploring collaboration and investment opportunities in Sarawak, following a one-day delegation visit hosted by InvestSarawak.
According to a media release today, the visit builds on earlier engagement in January, when InvestSarawak facilitated a CREST Penang delegation.
The programme brought together former Malaysia Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, CREST leadership, and senior industry figures for strategic discussions with Sarawak ministries, agencies and ecosystem players.
During the visit, delegates engaged with Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, and Deputy Premier and Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
Delegates noted Sarawak’s potential to emerge as a high-value technology and industrial hub, citing policy clarity, reliable and increasingly sustainable energy, and the State government’s commitment to developing an ecosystem conducive to investment, innovation and industrial growth.
Key areas of interest included the semiconductor value chain, food security and agri-tech, high-value timber and downstream forestry applications, AI and digital technologies, and broader high-technology industries requiring talent development.
Awang Tengah emphasised that the visit reflects growing interest from Peninsular Malaysia’s industry players in Sarawak’s opportunities across healthcare, urban development, semiconductors, digital technologies and advanced manufacturing.
“Sarawak welcomes serious, long-term partnerships that create value, build capabilities and support sustainable growth,” he said.
Dr Sim highlighted that the range of expertise in this delegation aligns with where Sarawak wants to go, guided by values that ensure sustainable growth for the next generation.
“We welcome collaborations that contribute to Sarawak’s priorities in healthcare, liveable cities, innovation and long-term development,” he added.
Delegates also highlighted the importance of connecting Peninsular Malaysia’s industrial ecosystem with Sarawak’s long-term priorities, particularly in sectors where technology, industrial capability and ecosystem-building must progress together.
“This visit is a useful platform to connect capabilities from Peninsular Malaysia with Sarawak’s priorities in high-value sectors,” said Jaffri Ibrahim of CREST.
InvestSarawak chief executive officer Timothy Ong affirmed that the organisation is pleased to support the discussions and connect companies with relevant stakeholders in Sarawak.
Participating organisations included UCSI Healthcare, CREST, Cnergenz Berhad, Communication 21, Think City, Clarion Malaysia, ACO Tech, Filpal, Oppstar Berhad, and senior representatives from the semiconductor industry.
The itinerary also featured sessions with agencies across healthcare, urban planning, digital economy, semiconductors, agriculture and investment facilitation. — DayakDaily
