KUCHING, Oct 3: Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong wants the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) to address what she claims to be a severely clogged drain along Jalan Simpang Tiga.

In a press statement, she said that the clogged drain beside the bus stop near tHE Spring Mall has caused sewage to overflow onto the road surface, making it slippery and endangering road users.

Furthermore, the oily and dirty drainage discharge that overflows towards the road causes moss to grow, emitting an unpleasant smell, she added.

“Jalan Simpang Tiga is a protocol road, but the drainage system has not received the necessary upgrading all these years.

“Some parts of the drainage system have collapsed. There is no effective drainage system being put in place, and the long-term severe blockage has led to the accumulation of rubbish and residue inside the drains, posing significant hygiene concerns,” she said.

Yong said she had reported the issue to Sarawak JKR on Sept 13 after receiving public feedback on the issue, to which the department responded that they had sent out a team to address the complaint and repair works would be carried out, but claimed that the problem persists. — DayakDaily
