Pending rep wants all musical fountain’s project details be made public

KUCHING, Dec 4: Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong has requested that documents pertaining to the RM31 million Darul Hana Musical Fountain be made public.

She said she had made the request on Nov 21, but to date, she had yet to receive the documents, including the Schedule of Rates, Bill of Quantities and design specifications.

“I see this practice as unusual, or we called it ‘abnormal’ if this direct-award contract of the RM31 million fountain project is not an overpriced project as claimed by the Sarawak government.

“Furthermore, the Minister of Integrity and Ombudsman (Datuk) Talib Zulpilip had in DUN during his winding-speech informed the august House that this project had gone through the Special Cost Committee, which was headed by State Secretary Tan Sri Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani and it has complied with all the standard procedure to implement it.

“Then, I see there is no reason for the government not to disclose all these requested documents. There is no reason for them to hide from the public,” she said at a press conference at Democratic Action Party (DAP) headquarters here today.

She further claimed that Talib, in his winding-speech, had informed DUN that the government was prepared to share the project specifications with her.

“If I quote Page 31 of the Hansard on Nov 12 of 2018 — ‘Kerajaan bersedia untuk berkongsi reka bentuk kepada Yang Berhormat untuk melaksanakan project musik fountain dengan kos lima juta.’ (The government is ready to share the design with the Honourable Representative to implement the Musical Fountain Project with a cost of RM5 million),” said Yong.

Yong added that yesterday, she wrote an official letter to Talib to request him to provide all the documents relevant or pertaining to the Darul Hana Musical Fountain Project. — DayakDaily
