KUCHING, Aug 29: Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong urges the Sarawak government to allocate funds to assist preschool and childcare operators to improve facilities to prevent the spread of Covid-19 amongst their young charges.
According to Yong, providing assistance to improve ventilation on the premises is important because the increased airflow will reduce the risk of infectious elements in the air.
“In order to reduce the risk of infection amongst our children, I humbly suggest that the Sarawak Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government allocate some financial assistance to help the preschool and childcare operators, particularly, to improve the ventilation system at schools to reduce the risk of infection amongst our young children.
“I am sure that all preschool and childcare operators are diligently doing all they can to make their premises are very safe for the children,” she said in a press statement today.
Yong explained the pandemic had been a tough time for these operators due to the extended lockdowns, and they are just trying to support the government’s efforts to revive the state’s economy.
In addition, Yong pointed out that the State government should also help B40 parents by providing face masks and face shields for their young children to act as a secondary layer of protection.
“It may seem trivial to many, but for a B40 family to be providing face masks for their children daily, it is going to eat into their already fragile family budget.
“Failing to take these two basic steps will risk a higher infection rate among young children attending preschool education and childcare,” she added. — DayakDaily
