KUCHING, Nov 25: Dato Sri Tiong King Sing’s attendance at a programme in support of a Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate in the Sabah election on Nov 23 was made in his personal capacity as the federal Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and not under the direction or representation of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

In a statement issued today, Pergerakan Pemuda Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Sarawak clarified that GPS has not issued any directives, and no GPS delegates or representatives have been sent to participate in the Sabah election.

Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP and Dudong assemblyman, is the president of Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), which is a component party of the GPS coalition.

“Any action or statement made by Dato Sri Tiong King Sing in any of the Sabah election constituencies that are currently taking place does not reflect GPS’ official stance, nor does it have any direct connection with the coalition.

“GPS expressed its commitment to continue to respect the relationship with the State of Sabah and not to interfere in local political affairs throughout the Sabah election.

“In order to preserve good ties between the States, this statement was released to prevent misunderstandings and to reaffirm GPS’s impartial position in the Sabah election,” it said. — DayakDaily
