MIRI, May 11: A local man in his 50s was killed in a hit-and-run accident along Jalan Miri Airport near the Borneo Medical Centre (BMC) here early this morning.
Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the fatal accident occurred at about 1am and involved a pedestrian and an unidentified vehicle.
Initial investigations found that the victim was in the process of crossing the road from the right side to the left when he was believed to have been struck by the vehicle on the right lane of the road.
“The pedestrian was confirmed dead at the scene,” he said in a statement today.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police are urging members of the public with information related to the incident to contact investigating officer Insp. Mohd Faizul Ab. Rahim at 014-8582582 or 085-430479, or report to the nearest police station.
Road users are also advised to drive cautiously and comply with traffic regulations to avoid endangering other road users. — DayakDaily
