KUCHING, Mar 23: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Youth holds that the commitment of its president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing to public service should be emulated, instead of being condemned.

PDP Tanjung Batu Youth Chief Yiak Chiong Wei in a press statement today vouched for Tiong, and stressed that “his (Tiong’s) manner of going down to the grassroots to listen to the people and work to alleviate their problems cannot in any way be misconstrued or discredited”.

“In responding to the requests of the public, he often personally inspects areas of concern in order to determine the most appropriate solutions and solve problems without fear or favour.

“This commitment to public service should be emulated, not condemned. If politicians choose to isolate themselves for fear of bad publicity, nothing can be done. In the end, to whom should the public turn to for help?” Yiak said.

The youth chief has come to the defence of Tiong following an article published by a local Chinese newspaper insinuating Tiong for failing to comply with Covid-19 preventive standard operating procedures (SOP) but demanding others to do so.

Yiak expressed disappointment over this “disingenuous piece” which did not mention Tiong’s name.

“It is regrettable that the writer of a major newspaper has chosen to insinuate that PDP President Dato’ Seri Tiong King Sing failed to comply with SOPs against COVID-19 without pointing out the exact instances that he has committed these alleged violations.

“Though he did not name Dato Seri Tiong in the slanderous article, the damage to his reputation had been done,” said Yiak, claiming that the allegations in the article were baseless and unsubstantiated.

Fortunately, he said, such attacks would not derail the works by Tiong and party to contribute to Covid-19 outbreak prevention and help the people. — DayakDaily
