KUCHING, July 1: Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (Motac) Dato Sri Tiong King Sing’s good intention was questioned unfairly, says Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) youth chief David Yeo Ang Lim.
In a Facebook post today, Yeo said it is sad that political officials have taken to aggravate and confuse the people further on the matter.
“This incident, which is not the first time to occur, has seriously exposed weaknesses within government agencies to cooperate and create a safe environment for tourists to visit Malaysia.
“We require that to recover from our struggling tourism industry post-Covid-19,” he said.
Commenting further, Yeo said the Immigration Department of Malaysia has several questions to answer.
“Where are the trained translators? And what of the allegation of demands for unreasonable fees? Has it been determined that these fees are not illegal? Why is the spotlight on the minister and not on the gapping problems tarnishing Malaysia’s image for years?
“He has a valid pass for the arrival hall, so why still stay on the trivial matters and not on the real problems?” he asked.
More importantly, Yeo said, he is appalled that political veterans from Umno, namely its youth chief Dr Akmal Salleh, are making baseless accusations for political mileage without knowing the facts.
“If Dr Akmal spent even an ounce of time looking into the matter, he would know these are reoccurring issues.
“Does he suggest we just turn a blind eye and pretend nothing is happening?” he asked.
He also reminds Dr Akmal that Malaysia Madani is not just a political slogan.
“It is a set of guiding principles that brings about an accountable and transparent government. If he believes in the unity government, he needs to withdraw his remarks and apologise to Tiong,” he said. — DayakDaily
