KUCHING, Nov 21: The people of Ba’kelalan are hoping to see lawyer Sam Laya contest as Progressive Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidate in the Ba’Kelalan seat in the coming State election.

PDP president Dato Sri Tiong King Sing said this was the honest feedback that he has been receiving from the ground during his visits to Ba’kelalan and Lawas in recent days.

Expressing his confidence in Sam, Tiong thus assured the residents of Ba’kelalan that Sam would be the only nominated candidate from PDP for the seat.

“I promise that Sam Laya is the only candidate nominated by PDP. He will be recommended by PDP under the entrustment (sic) of all parties to wear (sic) the banner of PDP and compete for N81 Ba’kelalan in the upcoming Sarawak election,” he said.

Tiong said the people of Ba’kelalan are eager for real development after 10 years of zero change and years of constant struggle over water, electricity, road and network deficiencies.

“Local community leaders and residents mentioned that infrastructure such as (telecommunication) network signals, roads, water and electricity supply have troubled them for a long time. They have waited too long in the past 10 years,” he said in a statement today.

Tiong, who is also the Bintulu MP, said the people yearned for a people’s representative who is willing to devote time and effort to serve the people, instead of only appearing in the constituency once in five years.

He said leaders must personally experience the daily lives of the people in Ba’kelalan in order to understand their problems and thereafter push for the right developments for the people’s wellbeing.
