KUCHING, May 17: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) is continuing its push for fairer representation in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS), Parliament and local councils within the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition, says its deputy president Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.

According to Henry, PDP president Dato Seri Tiong King Sing has been actively working to ensure the party receives a more equitable quota of seats.

“Our president is really working hard so that we are given a fairer quota in DUS seats, parliamentary seats and municipal councils,” he was quoted as saying by TVS when officiating the townhall session held in conjunction with PDP’s 2026 Triennial General Assembly (TGA) at a hotel in Sibu today.

Henry said cooperation between the party leadership and grassroots members remains important to ensure PDP’s voice continues to be heard in Sarawak’s political landscape.

He added that strong unity within the party could strengthen PDP’s standing in the eyes of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and potentially lead to more seats being allocated to the party in future.

“It does not matter if we are small. With strong spirit, when the Premier sees PDP as strong, he will give us more new seats,” he added.

Henry also said Abang Johari was pleased with the spirit shown by PDP members during the gathering.

The inaugural townhall session also discussed several issues, including the appointment of Community Chiefs and Headmen (KMKK), involving PDP senior vice-president Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil. — DayakDaily
