KUCHING, Sept 16: The inaugural Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Permai Run could become an annual fixture on the local calendar following a strong turnout of around 1,000 participants today.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), PDP president and Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Seri Tiong King Sing flagged off the run at Taman Tasik Permai in conjunction with Malaysia Day.
The 4.5km event brought together residents from across the community.

Organising chairman Councillor Aaron Teo noted that reaching the 1,000-registration cap within just six weeks highlights a growing public shift toward prioritizing physical well-being.
“Nowadays, more people are beginning to pay attention to a healthy lifestyle. Health is no longer something we think about only when we are sick—health must be our priority every day,” said Teo, who serves as a Sibu Municipal Council member and PDP Nangka Youth chief.
Beyond fitness, Teo emphasised that the run was structured around community engagement rather than pure competition, giving families and friends a positive environment to bond and stay active.
Looking ahead, he expressed hope that PDP Nangka will establish the run as an annual affair, expanding its scale and scope for even wider participation in future editions. — DayakDaily
