KUCHING, Aug 29: The Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Bintulu Service Centre, in collaboration with Sarawak Welfare Department, delivered essential supplies to the community of Kuala Sigu in Sebauh, which was recently stranded due to severe flooding.
Acting under the directive of Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, the PDP Bintulu team promptly rented a boat to overcome the challenge of impassable roads and deliver critical aid to the isolated villagers via the waterway.
In a social media post shared by Tiong’s special officer Steven Kong yesterday (Aug 28), it was detailed how the team carefully navigated the river, enduring a journey that spanned several hours.
The boat, laden with drinking water, rice, and other essential dry goods, successfully reached Kuala Sigu, bringing much-needed relief to the seven households trapped by the flood.
The sudden and severe flood crisis was triggered by a relentless downpour that caused the river to swell overnight, submerging local schools and longhouses situated along the river.
With floodwaters reaching waist-high and the village’s only wooden bridge submerged, the community found itself cut off and in urgent need of assistance.
As water levels gradually recede, Kong urged all residents, particularly those living along the riverbanks, to remain vigilant and prioritise their safety.
He also encouraged anyone facing difficulties or requiring assistance during this challenging time to reach out to him or the Bintulu Service Centre.
“My team and I are fully committed to offering every possible support within our means. In times of disaster, our humanity shines brightest. The PDP stands resolutely by your side as we navigate this crisis together, united by compassion and determination,” Kong stated. — DayakDaily
