KUCHING, Nov 22: Malaysia needs an opposition with courage, intelligence, and principles—not a political group that is only good at playing on sentiments without contributing to reform or development.

In pointing this out, Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) deputy information chief Krishna Govinth, in a statement today, said recent evaluations on the federal administration led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim issued by BERSIH regarding the government’s reform agenda have been manipulated by the opposition in an irresponsible manner.

According to him, although the evaluation might be subjective, the report still clearly states that the federal government needs to expedite the implementation of reform promises.

“But what did the opposition do? Instead of coming forward with thoughtful suggestions or providing constructive criticism, they chose to distort this issue to stir up cheap controversy.

“They not only failed to carry out their role as an effective check and balance but also tainted the democracy with the 3R (race, religion, royalty) rhetoric that is unproductive and only divides the people,” he said.

He said furthermore, the opposition’s weakness not only thwarts efforts to ensure the government is more accountable but also threatens the country’s political stability.

“The opposition needs to start acting as the true voice of the people. If the opposition continues to be weak, who will hold the government truly accountable?

“Malaysia does not need an opposition that only knows how to aggravate sentiments, but an opposition that can contribute to the country’s progress,” he added. — DayakDaily
