KUCHING, Feb 27: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan opined that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government should use this window of opportunity where Malayan politics is in chaos to call for Sarawak’s independence.

He observed that after the 14th General Election on May 9, 2018, the federal government has done little to develop Sarawak.

Hence, he called on Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who is GPS president to request for Sarawak’s independence from Putrajaya.

“After GE14, the federal government has done little for Sarawak.

“They do not prioritise the development of infrastructure in Sarawak and there is also the issue of rebuilding dilapidated schools which has been hanging for many years.

“Besides, the Pan Borneo Highway project has also been delayed and has caused inconveniences to road users.

“As the construction work of the highway is still on-going, there is also a high risk of accidents for those travelling the highway.

“Other than that, there are also many federal land which is undeveloped and Sarawak should take this opportunity to get it back.

“GPS should take the opportunity to seek for independence as this is the best timing to negotiate with the federal government,” he said during a press conference here today.

Additionally, Goon believed that if Malayan political parties were to gain control over Sarawak, then there could be a possibility that Sarawak will lose its immigration autonomy.

He explained that by calling for independence at this juncture, it will prevent the political parties from Peninsular Malaysia to suppress and oppress Sarawakians.

Voon who was formerly Batu Lintang assemblyman believed that it is legitimate and legal under the international laws for Sarawak to exit the federation.

Among those present at the press conference were PBK’s director of political affairs for Kuching and Samarahan, Raymond Thong, PBK’s representative for Bidayuh Affair Freedy Misid, and coordinator for Thong, Lue Cheng Hing. — DayakDaily
