PBK: Fight against Covid-19 best undertaken by health experts, not politicians

KUCHING, June 28: The fight against Covid-19 is best taken up by professionals and health experts, not politicians who may be more concerned with their publicity than the people’s miseries.

This is the view of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan who strongly held that the current fight against the pandemic in Sarawak is a failure as the crisis persists due to negligence.

“The war against Covid-19 is a failure. We have been fighting against Covid-19 for too long, the fight has caused much stress and damage to the economy,” he said.

In terms of lockdowns, he said they would only be effective if properly executed instead of implementing half-hearted standard operating procedure (SOP).

Voon noted the success of the first Movement Control Order (MCO) last year but a slip in SOP enforcement in late 2020 had caused the outbreak of the Pasai Cluster that later spread throughout the whole of Sarawak which until now, has yet to be contained.

Meanwhile, the former Batu Lintang assemblyman also pointed out the negligence of enforcement personnel in carrying out roadblocks and the lack of supervisions from senior officers.

“If you notice the roadblocks, you may realise many of them are placed in wrong places and enforcement officers are sitting under the tents playing handphones.

“I didn’t see or learn senior officers like commissioners and the chief district police coming down to inspect roadblocks manned by their officers.

“I have passed by roadblocks many times with no inspection at all,” he said in a statement today.

On the distribution of food aid, Voon said he was made to understand that many houses were neglected by food distributors.

He also pointed out the authorities’ slow responses in quarantine or offering medical help to those suspected of contracting the coronavirus. — DayakDaily
