SIMUNJAN, Dec 22: The resounding victory of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) in the 12th Sarawak Election three years ago should not be interpreted as a justification for the party to become complacent or self-reliant in forming the government.

In a news report by TVS, PBB vice president Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah emphasised that the party is committed to collaborating with other like-minded political parties within the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition to maintain political stability in the region.

He highlighted that PBB’s success in securing more than half of the contested seats in the last election has solidified its role as the backbone of GPS.

“Out of 82 contested seats, PBB holds 47. Although a party with 41 seats could form the government with a simple majority, we choose not to act in such a manner.

“This is because we want Sarawak to have leaders from all ethnic groups,” he said when addressing the closing ceremony of the PBB Simunjan Branch Delegates Meeting on Saturday (Dec 21).

Abdul Karim, who is also Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Art, further explained that the unity of the component parties within GPS has driven the region’s economic progress, enabling the government to propose the Sarawak Budget 2025, totalling RM15.8 billion.

He urged PBB members to continue working together to ensure the continued political stability of Sarawak.

Also present at the event were Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee, Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris, political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak Samat Gani, and Simunjan District officer Seroji Ludin. — DayakDaily
