KUCHING, Oct 3: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s (PBB) newest wing, Belia 18, will be present for the party’s special convention for the Betong zone this Sunday (Oct 8), followed by Sibu at the end of the month and Bintulu in early November.

According to Deputy Premier of Sarawak-cum-PBB deputy president Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas in a statement today, members of the Belia wing who are between the ages of 18 and 28 will be among the 1,500 delegates expected at the convention to be held at the Dewan Tan Sri Kalong Ningkan in Betong on Oct 8.

“The Belia wing is a very special group that represents a totally different generation altogether.

“They will be given the opportunity to air their views and to join in the discussions for the resolutions. We want to know their aspirations and inspirations,” he said.

He went on to say that it was also very important to guide them (Belia wing members) on the past and present struggles of the party.

“It is through such struggles, steadfast commitment, and members’ unity and loyalty that PBB has been instrumental in bringing the success, progress, and prosperity in the State to the level that we now witness and enjoy.”

Uggah, who is also Bukit Saban PBB branch chairman, noted that the recruitment of the Belia 18 members was part and parcel of the party’s ongoing members and leadership grooming exercises.

“The youths are going to be a very important future force. We need to groom them as future leaders to succeed us. In fact, it is through this grooming process we are able to produce our new leaders.

“They need to climb up the leadership ladder step by step and in the process will acquire good leadership skills, wisdom, and experiences,” he added.

Meanwhile, regarding the Betong convention, Uggah, who is its organising chairman, said he has directed all 14 PBB branches in the zone to include their Belia wing members to attend.

He also mentioned that PBB party president Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg would be the guest of honour at the convention.

Uggah continued stating that Utility and Telecommunications (MUT) Sarawak Minister-cum-Sebuyau assemblyman Datuk Julaihi Narawi will present the resolutions with Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Sarawak Deputy Minister-cum-Layar assemblyman Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu supporting him.

In the same development, the Deputy Premier recently met with the main and various sub committees for the convention in Betong.

He was joined by Betong member of parliament (MP) Dr Richard Rapu, Saribas and Kalaka assemblymen Mohd Razi Sitam and Mohamad Duri respectively, and others.
