KUCHING, Jan 30: The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth made it clear that Sarawak and its leaders are not ‘belittling’ Malaya but are instead inviting the nation to look at Sarawak’s achievements as a possible pathway towards future prosperity.
In a statement issued today, the youth wing was referring to a statement by the party’s secretary-general, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, urging Malaya to learn from the Sarawak formula of governance, racial, and religious harmony alongside development.
“We strongly echo Dato Sri Alexander’s view that the public has become jaded to pervasive politics in Malaya, which hampers national unity and progress, which is a stark contrast to the situation in Sarawak.
“Political stability is paramount for Sarawak, and only through stability that progress can be achieved and unity can be preserved. This formula is tried and tested and has been proven in Sarawak,” said the statement.
The youth wing again expressed Sarawak’s commitment to Malaysia’s shared aspirations, noting that unity remains vital even amid narratives that undermine Sarawak and are advanced by certain interested parties.
It added that the inclusive policies implemented by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) supporting all communities in Sarawak must serve as a model for Malaysia in preserving national unity.
At the same time, they also echoed Nanta’s view on balancing autonomy and preserving State-federal relations, believing that Sarawak’s rights as well as ownership of its oil and gas resources can align with national interests through discussions, consultation, and negotiations.
Reiterating the words of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, they added that both PETROS and PETRONAS must co-exist and they must work together to develop the oil and gas sector in Sarawak.
They also emphasised their position of asking for Sarawak to participate in the oil and gas industry to develop local talents as well as to tap into emerging green industries to grow the State’s economy.
“There should not be any sentiments of Sarawak being “greedy” because all this while, the nation has immensely benefitted from resources extracted from Sarawak and will continue to benefit in the future through shared resources, expertise and economic vision.
“A stronger Sarawak strengthens Malaysia, and it’s time all Malaysians see it that way.” — DayakDaily
