KUCHING, April 3: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) information chief Datuk Idris Buang holds that doctors or medical officers going on strike is akin to a conspiracy to injure or even murdering of patients.
“If doctors were to (go on) strike, it is akin to conspiracy to injure or even murder patients,” said Idris in a press statement today.
To him, doctors are to uphold the noblest of duties to humanity by the sanctimonious vow of the Hippocratic Oath.
The Hippocratic Oath is an oath of ethics medical practitioners take and requires them to swear to uphold specific ethical standards.
Reminding the doctors of their sacred oath, he questioned those involved about what the strike would lead them to.
A group of doctors related to a social media page called “Mogok Doktor Malaysia (Malaysian Doctors Strike) have threatened mass resignation and a nationwide strike beginning today to Wednesday (April 3 to 5).
Last Wednesday, it was reported that the organisers of the strike told doctors to take emergency or medical leave for three days as a sign of protest.
They declared that an estimated 8,000 out of some 20,000 contract medical officers (MOs) would participate in the strike or mass resignation event.
Their demands included absorbing all contract MOs into permanent positions without conditions, providing basic salary increments, higher on-call rates, and resolution to specialist shortages, MOs, and house officers, among others. — DayakDaily
