KUCHING, Mar 26: Longhouses dwellers throughout Sarawak are crying over the shortage of food and basic necessities after the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO), said PAS’ party wing Dewan Himpunan Penyokong PAS (DHPP) Sarawak .

Its chief Achau Mujah said the MCO that was announced by the government from March 18 until 30 had affected the daily routine in longhouses throughout Sarawak, and its effect will worsen after the newly announced extension of the MCO until April 14, 2020.

“Although RM250 assistance was offered by the Sarawak government, there are certain groups that are being left behind, such as those farmers, small businessmen and labourers, who do not have Employees Provident Fund (EPF) savings, especially the longhouse dwellers.

“This trying time is felt by almost all of the longhouses dwellers and most of them have been cut off from their basic food supply, and they are forced to ration their supplies, at the same time borrowing money from others in order to survive,” he said.

Achau also expressed DHPP’s concern about the hardship faced by the longhouse folks and called for the attention of the Federal and Sarawak government on the matter.

“In this regard, we would like to seek special allocation from the Federal and Sarawak government to ensure that the problems faced by the longhouse dwellers are being taken care of

“It is also hoped that those big companies and wealthy individuals in Sarawak can come forward to help and lessen their burden,” he added. —DayakDaily.
