KUCHING, April 29: Datuk Paruwadi Musa has expressed his intention to step down as the president of Sepak Takraw Association Betong Division (PESTAB).
After holding the post for two terms since 2016, Paruwadi said it is time for him to give way to new leadership.
He said one of the main reasons for his withdrawal is due to health factors.
“We have yet to hold an election for the new presidency but I have made public my intention to step down.
“We will let the staff elect their new president and shape their direction in sports,” he said during a breaking of fast ceremony with the mualaf (converted Muslims) and orphans organised by DP Ice Cream Gula Apong in Bandar Baru Samariang here yesterday (April 28).
Paruwadi was promoted as the president for PESTAB in 2016, after holding the position as deputy president from 2014 until 2016.
When asked about the possibility of PESTAB returning under the Sarawak Sepak Takraw Association (PSS) or the newly established Malaysian Sepak Takraw Confederation (MSC), Paruwadi said he would not be against it.
“The decision lies with the new leadership of PESTAB later,” he added.
On May 22 last year, Paruwadi announced that PESTAB had exited PSS.
This came after PSS announced its decision to exit its umbrella organisation Malaysian Sepak Takraw Association (PSM).
It was alleged that PSS’s departure was based on the personal decision of several executive members and does not reflect the entire branch associations in the State, which led to the departure of PESTAB from PSS right after. — DayakDaily
