KUCHING, June 10: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan today claimed he was sacked by Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) years ago; hence, there was no necessity to resign.
“They dismissed me on the eve of nomination day. This was at Kuching DAP Hq (headquarters) when my Batu Lintang seat was swapped with PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat) Padungan seat, killing two birds with one stone.
“Out too was the incumbent for Padungan, Dominique Ng Kim Ho, who was not asked to defend his seat,” said Voon in a statement today.
Voon was responding to Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen’s statement today, where the latter claimed Voon is still a member of DAP and said that DAP does not allow dual membership.
Chong also pointed out that Voon is still DAP chairman of its Batu Lintang branch, which had been dormant for more than three years.
As such, Chong said the DAP Disciplinary Committee would be issuing a letter to Voon to demand an explanation for being associated with another political organisation.
Voon, who is a former Batu Lintang assemblyman, claimed the dismissal was done despite five out of seven branches in Kuching wanting him to defend the Batu Lintang constituency at that time.
“Although dismissed, I campaigned for the party and also for See Chee How (current Batu Lintang assemblyman), who won the Batu Lintang seat handsomely.
“I have to thank Lim Kit Siang for consoling me and asking me to help in the campaign, which I did,” he said.
Voon claimed that even until today, he was not informed of the reasons why he was dismissed, except that DAP did not need his service anymore.
“I have no ill feelings against anyone of them when they sacked me that way without any warning to me.
“No reason was given, except for a short remark to say DAP no more need my service, that’s all. The bridge was broken! My heart sank!” he said. — DayakDaily
