His appointment marks a new term as a Senator nominated by the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS), effective from today until July 22, 2028.

Ahmad told reporters in Parliament that Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had entrusted him to continue safeguarding the rights and interests of the ‘Bumi Kenyalang’ (Land of the Hornbills).

“The Premier also advised me to continue cooperating with the MADANI government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership and to give my full support to him,” he said.

Ahmad described his reappointment for a second term as a mandate from the people to continue defending Sarawak’s rights and privileges under the Constitution and MA63.

He also pledged to reaffirm the legal status of the Oil Mining Ordinance (OMO) 1958 as a valid territorial law.

“I will continue to support the role of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) as a strategic entity owned by the people of Sarawak and to champion inclusive and equitable development policies among regions so that no state is left behind,” he added.

On May 22, Ahmad was re-elected as senator after no other nominations were submitted during the DUS sitting.

His nomination was proposed by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and seconded by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

A member of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) since 1996, Ahmad previously served as the Information Chief of the Kampung Paya Mebi branch (2009–2016) and has been the PBB Batu Kawa branch chairman since 2009, re-elected for multiple terms with the current term ending in 2027.
