KUCHING, Mar 11: The proposed construction of a secondary school in Pantu, Sri Aman is viewed as an important step to ensure students in rural areas have easier and more comfortable access to education while supporting the development of human capital in the district.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), key matters discussed during a recent meeting chaired by Sri Aman MP Dato Seri Doris Sophia Brodie at the Pantu District Office today included the urgent need for a secondary school in Pantu, proposed locations for the school, the provision of supporting infrastructure, and the follow-up actions required from the relevant authorities.
During the meeting, Doris said the construction of a secondary school in the district would help address the challenges faced by students who currently have to travel to neighbouring districts to pursue their secondary education.
“The construction of a secondary school in Pantu will not only make it easier for students in the area to access secondary education, but will also serve as a catalyst for human capital development and improve the wellbeing of the local community,” she said.
Pantu District Officer Raca Mulong noted that Pantu was officially declared a district on Oct 8, 2021, which has since led to population growth and a rising number of students requiring access to secondary education facilities.
“Many students from Pantu currently commute to secondary schools in neighbouring districts, posing challenges in terms of travel distance and transportation,” he said.
Also present were Sri Aman Land and Survey Department superintendent Michaelsen Nisen; representatives from the Sri Aman Resident’s Office; Balai Ringin assemblyman Snowdan Lawan; officers from the Sri Aman and Simunjan District Education Offices; and representatives from the Balai Ringin and Bukit Begunan service centres. — DayakDaily
