MIRI, Aug 15: The construction of the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway up to the Sungai Tangap-Pujut Link Road works package (WPC 11), except Lambir, is expected to be completed by December this year.
“The latest update is the Sarawak Pan Borneo construction progress is at about 96.6 per cent completed,” said Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Uggah was met by reporters at the WPC 11 site in Miri, after the closing of the Pan Borneo Highway Exploration tour today in Miri.
Uggah said most the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway construction will be completed by December 2023.
“So by that time, when Sarawak Pan Borneo is completed, it will be a gamechanger for us,” he told reporters.
Earlier, Uggah and his entourage had travelled by express bus from Kuching, covering a distance of 786km to reach the WPC 11 site.
“For us, we are very fortunate to have this (Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway),” said Uggah who is also Second Minister for Finance and New Economy.
Uggah added, he had been briefed on several strategies to ensure that certain parts of the highway will be completed on time according to schedule.
“Along the way of our tour, we were able to see which part of the highway is yet to be completed…those are Lambir, Bukit Bangunan, Jelukong and a bit of Sarikei,” he told the press. — DayakDaily
