KUCHING, Nov 1: The Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway (LPB) project has achieved 99.50 per cent completion presently, with the remaining work concentrated in the Sarikei, Beluru, and Lambir sections, which are expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) acting director Wisil Lichok explained that the LPB project is organised into 11 contract packages encompassing 25 sections over a distance of 786 kilometres, with 11 contractors appointed to execute the work.
He highlighted several factors impacting the smooth execution of the project, including labour shortages and rising construction material costs.
“All 25 sections under this project scope have been opened to the public,” he said during an interview with TVS at the JKR Sarawak headquarters in Wisma Saberkas today.
To ensure close monitoring of the work, the Pan Borneo Highway Branch (formerly known as the Pan Borneo Highway Unit) has been divided into three administrative zones: Southern, Central, and Northern. Each zone is led by a zone manager and a project manager responsible for their respective packages.
“The zone managers and project managers are consistently on-site to oversee the progress of each job in the sections still under construction,” he added.
Wisil emphasised that JKR promptly addresses any complaints from the public, whether received directly or via social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
He also noted that JKR is the agency tasked with coordinating the project on behalf of the federal government (Ministry of Works Malaysia), implementing various initiatives to ensure the project’s advancement so that users can enjoy a more comfortable and efficient journey on the highway. — DayakDaily
