PALOH, April 4: The planned 26-kilometre road linking Paloh to Tanjung Manis, with an estimated cost of nearly RM800 million, is poised to be a major catalyst for development in the region, improving connectivity, economic opportunities, and the quality of life for local residents.
Deputy Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and Ukas), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, described the high-impact project as one that will bring significant changes to Kampung Paloh, Kedang, and Berangan.
“This is not just a plan on paper, but a project that will deliver a thousand benefits to the local community,” he said during the Aidilfitri Courtesy Programme for N.42 Semop held in Kampung Paloh and Kedang on Friday (April 3).
Abdullah, who is also the Semop assemblyman, said the project involves the construction of a road and a bridge across Batang Belawai, funded jointly by the federal and Sarawak governments.
He emphasised that the project is part of a broader agenda to ensure the area is connected by a modern road network, on par with other developed regions in Sarawak.
In addition, he highlighted the urgent need to rebuild Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Orang Kaya Muda Pakeri in Paloh, which is no longer safe for use.
“Education is the foundation for nurturing the next generation. Rebuilding this school must be expedited to ensure children in the area can continue their learning without interruption,” he said.
Abdullah also outlined other ongoing and planned initiatives in Paloh, Kedang, and Berangan, including coastal erosion protection, village road upgrades, and the construction of a fishermen’s jetty.
He urged local residents to be patient, noting that projects will be implemented in stages, taking into account time constraints and procedural requirements.
“The government is committed to ensuring every project is realised for the welfare of the people,” he added.
The programme was also attended by Tanjong Manis MP Dato Ir Yusuf Abd Wahab. — DayakDaily
