MIRI, Nov 29: A Paskitani national suspected of molesting an 11-year-old boy here two weeks ago, was remanded three days till Dec 1.
The remand order was issued by the Miri Magistrate’s Court yesterday, after the 38-year-old suspect was produced before Judge Eleanor Mako Timothy.
The suspect was accused of sexually assaulting the boy on Nov 15, 2019, inside a toilet of a mosque in Lutong.
The alleged incident occurred while the accused was in Miri to attend a religious activity at the mosque. After the programme ended, the suspect went back to Kepong in Kuala Lumpur.
According to the charge sheet, a police report has been lodged by the victim’s father, who is an Imam of the mosque (in Lutong) on Nov 20.
The accused was picked up by the police in Kepong to assist police investigation on the case.
The offence is framed under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a jail term not exceeding 20 years, and liable to whipping, upon conviction. — DayakDaily
