Pagar Satok prison cluster declared after 24 detainees at Satok police station test positive for Covid-19

KUCHING, July 19: Some 24 detainees at the Satok police station comprising 11 foreigners and 13 Sarawakians have tested positive for Covid-19, creating the Pagar Satok Cluster.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily Covid-19 update today, a total of 83 individuals at the Satok police station have been swabbed for Covid-19.


Out of that number, 24 tested positive while 59 individuals tested negative.

On July 14, Sarawak Commissioner of Police Datuk Aidi Ismail confirmed that there was a Covid-19 outbreak at the Satok police station.

He disclosed that eight policemen at the station had tested positive for Covid-19.

The Pagar Satok Cluster is one of the two new clusters announced in the State today.

The second cluster is the Jalan Selalang Cluster involving a longhouse at Sungai Kerubong in Sarikei town.

A total of 89 individuals have been swabbed whereby 37 tested positive and 52 tested negative.

In the meantime, Covid-19 patients from the Pagar Satok Cluster and Jalan Selalang Cluster have been admitted to various health facilities for treatment.

On the other hand, the Nanga Strass Cluster in Meradong ended.

With this, there are 91 active Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak from which six reported 36 new cases today. — DayakDaily
