KUCHING, May 23: Padungan assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen has voiced his objection to the construction of a new international airport and a deep sea port in Kuching, citing a lack of transparency and clarity over the cost and planning of the projects.
Chong said the announcement of the two mega projects had raised serious concerns due to the absence of detailed cost breakdowns and feasibility studies.
“Why [do] we object? Because we don’t know how much the cost is.
“Our Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) just made the announcement, and billions and billions and billions will be allocated, but we don’t know how much the cost is,” he said when participating on the motion of appreciation to the Sarawak Governor (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s opening address at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting here today.
He further stressed the need for the planning of the mega projects to be studied and presented before the DUS.
“There must be a proper feasibility study, and [it must be] presented in this DUS,” he added. – DayakDaily
