According to Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato Mancha Ata, the incident took place in the middle of June until the end of June.

“The victim received a phone call from an unknown number, and the suspect introduced herself as ‘Umi Hani’ from DHL Melaka.

“The suspect said the victim sent a package containing a chequebook and a token from Melaka to Kedah,” said Mancha in his statement today.

The victim was later informed that the package he ‘sent’ was handed over to the police for further investigation.

He was then advised to file an online police report to deny that he was the sender of the package.

He added that the phone call was connected to Bukit Aman, and the victim spoke to another suspect posing as a police inspector.

According to Mancha, the suspect ordered the victim to withdraw his retirement money to be transferred to several different accounts in order to proceed with the police investigation.

In a state of panic, the victim made eight transactions to five accounts.

“After making the transaction, the victim realised that he had been scammed when the suspect continued to call and instructed him to keep the matter a secret.

“The total loss incurred was RM216,000,” said Mancha. — DayakDaily
