Over RM200k worth of beer seized in contraband crackdown in Tabuan Desa

KUCHING, Nov 7: The Customs Department seized 1,481 cartons of beer worth over RM200,000 including taxes at Tabuan Desa here, yesterday.

According to the state Customs director Datuk Sharifah Halimah Tuanku Taha, the alcoholic beverages are worth RM38,340.72 and RM173,135.24 in taxes.

“A shipping container was used to store the various brands of beer,” she said in a statement today.

Sharifah Halimah added that the contraband items were stored and moved in a public housing area in order to avoid the authorities. It was believed that the items were for sell in the local market.

The case in being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967. — DayakDaily
