KUCHING, June 8: More than 500 participants took part in the Malaysia Games (Sukma) and PARA Sukma XXI Sarawak 2024 Baton Relay run in Sarikei today.

According to a news report from the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the event was held at Kampung Seberang Integration Sports Complex and included participants from government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and associations from Sarikei.

The SUKMA and PARA SUKMA XXI Sarawak 2024 Baton Relay tour will continue in Betong Division tomorrow (June 9).

During the flagging-off ceremony, Tanjong Manis MP Yusuf Abdul Wahab encouraged Sarikeians to partake in celebrating the Malaysian Games (Sukma) and Para Sukma XXI Sarawak 2024 taking place in August.

He also urged residents of Sarikei to attend and support various sports events to be contested at local arenas.

“I call on all residents of Sarikei Division to also celebrate this prestigious Games by supporting all athletes competing in nearby arenas, especially in Betong, Sibu, and Mukah Divisions, regardless of their state of origin.

“Show good sportsmanship and high unity as the people of Sarawak that we love,” he added.

Among those present were Pakan assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom, Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, and Sarikei Division Resident Michael Ronnie Langgong. — DayakDaily
